Insomnia / Chronic Fatigue
Insomnia
Whether you are having difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, or simply waking up too early, not getting a full night’s sleep on a regular basis can undermine your health. The body needs prolonged quality sleep to repair and renew itself. Without proper sleep, the immune system can become susceptible to illness.
If you consistently wake up and feel
- tired, or foggy
- have difficulty concentrating
- low energy
- moody and irritable
- difficulty concentrating
then you may be suffering from chronic insomnia.
Acupuncture can help you get a great night’s sleep and improve your overall health, without the use of medications.
Chronic Fatigue
Fatigue can be caused by many things including illness, psychological disorders, lifestyle habits, poor diet, stress, and lack of sleep, among other things. It is very important to understand the root cause of fatigue to accurately treat this condition. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a long-term and debilitating condition with specific symptoms:
- Unexplained chronic fatigue that lasts for six months or longer
- Fatigue that impairs normal activities
- Difficulty with memory or concentration
- Headaches
- Swollen lymph nodes in neck or armpits
- Sore muscles or joints without swelling
- Sore Throat
- Extreme exhaustion after physical or mental exercise
- not feeling refreshed upon waking from sleep
A number of other conditions such as fibromyalgia and multiple chemical sensitivity often overlap with CFS.
TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) views CFS as a deficiency in Qi (pronounced “chee”), blood, or Yin and Yang deficiencies. Treatment involves addressing all lifestyle issues that may be contributing to the symptoms. Commonly, Chinese herbal treatment is used to tonify the organs involved in the blockage or imbalance, acupuncture bring energy to deficient organs, and moxibustion (cupping) may be used at certain acupuncture points to bring new energy into the body. The treatment is customized to meet the needs of the whole patient. A typical course of treatment might include a weekly acupuncture session, moxibustion and daily use of tonifying herbs. As with all long term-conditions, relief tends to come about slowly and builds over time.
