Can Acupuncture Help?
Can acupuncture help with…this is the first question I get asked when people learn that I’m an acupuncturist. Acupuncture can indeed help with many health conditions such as back pain, headaches & migraines, sports injuries, digestive problems, weight problems, insomnia, anxiety and stress related disorders to name a few. For most of these conditions, acupuncture has been proven to be effective based on controlled trials.
In fact, acupuncture can help with so many conditions that it’s often faster to list conditions that acupuncture cannot help with such as:
- Dehydration or malnutrition: Acupuncture cannot replace our need for water and food! Acupuncture CAN improve the absorption of nutrients.
- Repetitive injuries such as Carpel Tunnel or tennis elbow: Acupuncture can help with the healing ONLY if, during the treatment period, the patient stops doing the activity that caused the injury.
- Significant structural deformations, including broken bones, torn muscles, and dislocated joints. Those need to be taken care of appropriately. However acupuncture CAN speed up the recovery. In fact, fractures heal 2x’s faster with acupuncture.
As an acupuncturist, my role is to determine what can be treated and restored through acupuncture, and what must be addressed through other modalities. According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture is officially recognized as being effective for treating over 28 conditions, and there is vast evidence that it can have therapeutic value for many more. Acupuncture has been used as a preventive and therapeutic treatment for over 3,500 years.
If you are wondering if acupuncture can help you with any problem you might have. Ask me!
I’d love to help.
